Soft and Fluffy

Does this not look so comfy?  It is very thick soft wool yarn couched directly onto bamboo batting.   It does make you wonder why more quilters don't use batting on their art quilts.  I can see why they wouldn't on bed quilts.  But on an art quilt that hangs on the wall, the texture created is second to none.
I want to welcome my new follower.  Glad to have you along, please feel free to leave a comment.  I enjoy them so much.

3D work

I have been sampling using different 3D techniques.  Here is a pipecleaner wrapped in fancy yarn and then bent into a heart shape.   It is fused onto batting and gives it a soft look that matches the yarn.

And welcome to my new follower, although I am unsure who it is, so drop me a line and I will welcome you properly.

Christmas Already?

Not quite, but our craft store is getting ready for a Christmas sale.   I did some free motion quilting on this poinsettia table topper.   The second one I did has veins in the petals and I do like that one better.   No pic of that one, it had to get down to the store right away.

Fabric Art

First things first, welcome sarahvanderburgh!
Here is how I showcase my fabulous fabric. It made it slightly easier to cut into, knowing I was making a small piece of art from it. That is a picture frame around the pink piece in the middle.
Can you see why I love it so much? And the worst part is, I don't even know who designed it or who carries it. It was a fantastic gift and there was no selvedge on either piece.

Charity Block

We had our guild meeting last night and it was so much fun. I haven't participated in the Block of the Month in the past few years, but did again last night. The reason being, the block we made is to go to charity. For kids quilts to be exact. You can't say no to participate in something so worthwhile and easy. We were given all the fabric, and the 9 patch was even made. Okay, that did make it super easy. We just had to turn it into a 6 1/2" block.

On the art quilting front, I have been producing tons. I can't show it yet but soon.

3D Flower

I have been busy in my studio, most of the day in there. I am producing alot and the creative juices are flowing!

This is a 3D double flower.

In other great news, I am getting a new sewing table. One where my machine sits down in the table. It is being custom built. I have someone working on the layout of my studio to see if I have it set up to use the space most efficiently. I am really looking forward to that.

If anyone has any studio setup tips, please send them along!

Felting Series Update

I thought I would show you how far along I am in my felting series. There is a range of colours both in the roving and in the embroidery thread. Each one is heavily stitched.

Getting Started

Welcome MT and Sharon! Thanks for joining my blog.

Today is the first day of school. My little darlings were so excited and their mom was so not excited=)
I am trying to get into a productive routine and set aside time for all the things that are important to me, while they are at school.
Scheduling is the main factor, I believe. I read a couple blogs and ebooks on working on quilting, and they said to bring an alarm clock into your studio and work solid for 20-30 minutes. Then take a break and make tea, fold laundry etc. Go back at it when you are refreshed. I am working on something, but it is too early to share yet exactly what it is.
Here is a picture of a 3 D butterfly I created. He is quite cute and now I just have to find the perfect place to put him.

Free Motion Practice

Welcome Carole to my blog!

I have been practicing my free motion quilting over the summer. I have been using 16" squares of muslin and divide them into 4 quadrants.

I hope to get caught up to Leah Day's blog before the end of fall. She is doing 365 FMQ fillers, and is at 200 now.
